Celebrating 100 Years of OMS New Zealand!

Step back in time to when we celebrated 100 years of OMS New Zealand!

The following article is from March 2015.

“As the New Year begins, we are looking ahead with expectation to build on the foundation of the Centenary Celebration for One Mission Society New Zealand held in November last year (2014). The weekend was exceptional; a fantastic time of recognising the goodness and faithfulness of God. All of our missionaries were home and many overseas guests joined in the celebration – a great time was had by all who attended.

The opening was standing room only and throughout the afternoon, the nine workshops led by our New Zealand missionaries and overseas guests were well attended – some overflowing out the doors! That evening, dinner guests were privileged to hear Dr Graham Houghton speak (OMS NZ’s first missionary), along with our OMS President, Dr Bob Fetherlin (USA).

The following Sunday morning church service was packed to capacity and the worship was exceedingly powerful and uplifting. Sasha Tsutserov from Russia shared his story and his passion for training leaders to reach the nations for Christ. What a powerful testimony from an ex KGB agent, who is on a mission to replace the thousands of pastors killed through communism. As all our missionaries were home, Pastor Rely and Lalaine Samonte from the Philippines and our Asia Regional Director John-Mark and Susan Brabon were also able to join us.

What a celebration of God’s faithfulness - we look forward now to what He is about to do!

Since OMS’ inception, the mission to make disciples, grow communities of believers and train up nationals remains the same. The message is the same although the methods change. We only have one life – one opportunity to make a difference.

We have excellent missionaries currently working in Asia, Ukraine, India and the Philippines. They face major setbacks and financial restraints yet they serve God with all their hearts. Would you like to become part of their teams and partner with them in prayer and support?”

Nearly five years later, now in 2019 [and 2024!], how true that last paragraph rings! Our mission is still the same, regardless of the ever changing methods. We still only have one life – one opportunity to make a difference. While some missionaries and locations have stayed the same, more have been sent and more locations have been impacted, and these individuals still carry on and continue to live life with faith in God and His provision.

So while much has changed, an important question still remains: “Would you like to become part of their teams and partner with them in prayer and support? Or better yet, do you feel called to head out to the mission field and fulfil God’s call on your life?”

If you’d like to learn more about anything that we do, send us a message!
