An update from Owen and Avalon Brown as our new Directors in March 2013.
“To those who may not know us, we have been involved with OMS NZ for many years. Accepted for missionary service in 2000, we left for Ecuador in 2003 and worked together with the Pavelka family in Yantzaza with the Saraguro people of the South East Amazon jungle communities.
Our roles were varied: ministry to children and women, adult literacy, Micro-enterprise development. All part of the church planting ministry which is the key focus of One Mission. As missionaries to Ecuador, we planned to work ourselves out of a job, which meant enabling the nationals to do the ministry themselves in a way that is culturally relevant for them.
After 4 years in Ecuador we returned to NZ where Owen took up the role of Short-Term Teams Coordinator for the NZ Office of OMS, which meant preparing, leading and sending people to countries for various short term mission adventures. Avalon learnt the role of Financial Administrator and other admin jobs.
Our passion is mission, encouraging people to respond and go.
Owen completed a 3 year Diploma of Missiology at BCNZ and Avalon has a Diploma of Biblical Studies through Laidlaw College. We also pastored for a short time in our home town of Morrinsville while preparing for the mission field. We have 5 adult children and 8 grandchildren.”
Today in 2019, we are enjoying the journey as OMS NZ Directors and the many challenges it brings. We have the privilege of working with our amazing team of missionaries on the field and staff in NZ, training up new candidates to go, and sharing what God is doing around the OMS world.
