FEBRUARY 2006 A Week in the Life of From your warm concern for us we thought you might like to join us for a week and get a little insight into what we do. However remember that our regular schedule is often changed, not to mention the visitors that drop by and the necessity to help meet some need. Flexibility has become our favourite word. We praise our Lord for the awesome privileges and enriching experiences of serving here. Sundays: We leave home between 7 and 8 am, pick up a carload, and travel for 1? - 2 hours to one of the communities. We do a programme for the children. These services break for a shared lunch, and people begin to disburse from about 3pm. We then begin adult literacy lessons with those students present. We usually stay the night with a Saraguro family and help teach cooking, and crafts etc also. Mondays: 6am. More literacy classes and a breakfast of rice and platanos (bananas), then we go to another community for more classes, arriving home just before lunch. Rest is a must for the afternoon. Tuesdays: Team meeting (with Mark and Anne Pavelka, and Angel) in the afternoon for 3 4 hours. This day we fast as a team for the ministry. Wednesdays: 8am team prayer time, followed by preparation every 2nd Wednesday for our childrens club in Nuevo Porvenir at 4pm. We leave home at 2pm. The energetic bunch of kids keep us on our toes for 11/2hrs, followed by more literacy, before a night meeting that Angel leads. Home about 11pm. Thursdays: 8am team prayer time. A day of preparation for the ladies, childrens and literacy lessons, update on emails, newsletters, administration, prayer updates, etc, etc. Fridays: 8am team prayer and discussion time with Mark, updating us on ministry issues. Once a month a Guinea Pig meeting is held for the associates. Saturdays: Twice a month, Anne and Avalon hold ladies meetings in the communities. Besides these regular schedules Owen is working on plans and pricing for the guinea pig units, and he will help with the buildings soon. He is often doing some carpentry job, or teaching English, or teaching Josh Pavelka some woodwork skills as well as trying to find time to study some Spanish each day. Avalon has the house to keep running smoothly and often has visitors staying, as well as also doing some Bible College courses. She has the responsibility of organising the OMS Field Retreat and Field Council meetings this year, and submits the prayer guides and plans to get involved on the financial side of the guinea pig project. All worthwhile and fulfilling as we serve Him, and yourselves, who sent us. Thank you so so much for your part in this ministry, which is seeing results. Our prayer needs (including the above): * Health We have both developed high blood pressure. Will you pray with us for complete healing? * For our family, facing changes this year. *For the children and people of Nuevo Povenir where many have died. One of the children drowned last year and another two sisters - Judi and Natalie lost their father late January. Their mother Delfina has suspected stomach cancer. |
