The Harvest Is Still Ripe |

Graham & Carol Houghton (India/China) Over the past 20 years, in many of my meetings with people, especially business people; rather than trying to understand the wonders of SAIACS (South Asian Institute of Advanced Christian Studies) and the mysteries of higher education, I’ve noticed that when there is a pause, someone will invariably say, “I’m sure SAIACS is great; but tell me, what are your graduates doing?” Ah yes, that is the heart of the matter! So let me tell you about Sushil and Sarah Tyagi (pronounced Tee-ah-gee).
They came to SAIACS early in 2000 and Sushil graduated with an M.A. in Christian Studies. Then they returned to New Delhi to work with a small group named Nicodemus Ministry, taken from the story in John 3 where we are told of one who came to see Jesus, surreptitiously, in the night. It should be no surprise, then, to learn that they work among Muslims.

She is a professor at the Biblical Seminary of Colombia, a Hebrew scholar, a translator of Hebrew Grammar into Spanish and has a passionate burden for the thousands of hardened criminals in Colombian Prisons. Jeannine Brabon is among a number of OMS missionaries who understands something of the enormous pain Colombians face as they daily come to terms with that nation’s ‘culture of death.’ Although the killing of others has become very lucrative for many of the cartels of the nation’s expanding drug culture, it has not stopped God’s people from serving in Colombia.
In an article on her ministry in Colombia she says, “I teach people who have had their fathers, brothers and sons assassinated. I rarely have a class in any given year that one of my class members does not lose one of their family members to a violent death.” To a culture where life itself has become insignificant, she encourages those around her to find security in the Person of Jesus Christ.

Ever since I was a child, it was always the personal stories told by members of my family that seemed to have the greatest impact upon my life and left me with the clearest memories. On a recent visit to OMS International's annual conference (Missions in the Midwest Family Retreat) in the States, I caught up with various OMS missionaries who shared some extraordinary stories with me. It was like listening to the Book of Acts all over again, and it made my heart bubble with enthusiasm and delight as they shared pictures of the power and anointing of the Spirit of God in people's lives. Here are just a few of their stories.

The Future Hope for Russia! Bible College students training to take Christ’s love to Russia
Dear brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ, Peace to you! My name is Yuliya Serikova. I am a first year student of the Moscow Evangelical Christian Seminary (Bible College). I am studying toward a Bachelor of Theology degree.
I thank the Lord for His love toward me, for caring for me and my family, for filling my life with meaning and joy and for performing miracles in my life. When we trust Him, He gives so much more than we would ever dream of.
